The Stonewall Riots

 

The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by members of the gay community[note 1] against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City.

The Stonewall is a significant event, which happened in a gay bar Stonewall Inn. Also, it has a great influence on LGBT community in American and other countries.

I think this event is really interesting because how a bar, which usually presents happiness and desires, has become a important historical place. Until today, Stonewall Inn still opens to people. When I went to there with Pilar,it doesn’t look like what I had imagined before. It is just old fashion bar, likes others, nothing really special.

 

Because we went to there in the morning, only three people were in the bar drink.  It was a little dark inside, small, and old. However, this small bar has a historical significance.

There is a second floor, but we didn’t go to there, so I don’t know what it looks like, but I saw some advertising of Stonewall Inn. So i bet there are must a lot of fun stuff.

 

It was really hard to interview people on the streets or in the bar. Some people had no idea about The Stonewall Riots, others just didn’t want to talk to me. Even though we went to Stonewall Inn, but people who were inside of the bar didn’t want to talk about it. So I went to school because since I’m a student, I think students are willing to be interviewed. I interview 6 people, 4 of them didn’t know The Stonewall Riots. But at least, 2 students studied about The Stonewall Riots in their classes, so they have basic ideas about it. But I will try to find someone who knows the event well.

For the audio, I used two classic pop music,which have important meanings for LGBT group, I will survive and I’m coming out. I used I will survive in the beginning because it represents the hard time in the past. After an interview of a old guy who is talking about the changes after The Stonewall Riots, I used I’m coming out that represents the beautiful future.

Furthermore, I added a speech, which is about anti gay, in my audio. I think it can make people to understand how hard is the situation of being gay in the past in American. I think my audio will let people have a basic idea about what Stonewall Riots is. It is not prefect, here is the first draft.stonewall inn(qiurui)_1
