Dalia Elhassan (Sophomore) Literary Studies

Dali won 1st place in the Hajja Razia Sharif Sheikh Prize for Nonfiction. The judges were very impressed with the quality of the work that was submitted, and they said it truly rose to the top. The judges said  “It was a nuanced, sophisticated look at the Muslim experience in America—just the kind of work that is needed now at a time when opinions (we feel) are becoming less nuanced. It’s our hope that this prize will, in some small way, suggest how art can be a way to get away from prejudice and stereotypes.”

Dali will be published in The Oakland Arts Review (An International Undergraduate Literary Journal) which held the contest.
