Masha Chlenova, faculty in Visual Studies, curated the exhibition, “Russian Revolution: A Contested Legacy” at IPCNY (Oct. 12 – Dec. 16, 2017).
This exhibition at the International Print Center New York presents a selection of iconic printed works of the Russian avant-garde – posters, books, and ephemera by such key figures as Gustav Klucis, El Lissitzky and Elizaveta Ignatovich – that reflect the idealistic collective drive to build a new socialist society based on individual freedoms and equality. Works by contemporary artists Yevgeniy Fiks and Anton Ginzburg address the continued resonance of this legacy from today’s perspective.
