Sound Matters – Cinema for the Ear – Water&Strength

Sound Matters – Cinema for the Ear – Water&Strength

The goal for this assignment was to create a narrative sound sequence that expands on the word ‘Water‘ and ‘Strength‘. i explored the ways that the various components of sound (duration, pitch, timbre, and intensity) can be structured to communicate a feeling and a memory. There is a dramatic structure, and i am aiming to evoke mood within my listeners.

I went through a long process with this piece as i was really trying to communicate a feeling and memory. As a kid i was forced into swimming practice, i was on the national team, and had training for 2-4 hours a day 6 days a week. This was very hard for me and i always had to find the strength within me to stand up to my parents and quit. So many thoughts and emotions and voices and echoes were constantly in my mind when i was in the water. So i really wanted to portray these memories and feelings within my piece as it took a huge toll in my life, and i would not be the person i am today if it weren’t for these moments.

Here is my piece:

PS. I found the strength…and finally stood up to my parents.
