After looking at my annotated bibliography, I had to generate some key words that start to come through in my annotations. Vietnamese restaurant came up a lot in my annotate bibliography as my group and I went to gather experience on the language and culture. Another key word I generated was “recording” as my annotated bibliography included annotations on a recording by Bui Chat himself, reading out all his poems, as well as a translation. After comparing my key words with the rest of my group, we came up with a couple of similar ones, this included, recordings, middle translation, pavement poets and cemetery poetry. We then generated 2 research questions for further investigation. One of them being “what are pavement poets?” and the other being “ what defines cemetery poetry?” The point of the visual translation is to have a man in a dark room, however there is a path in front of him that he cannot see, but every step he takes will glow beneath his feet, therefore his own path will follow him. We thought of this because cemetery poetry made us think of dark depressing poems, makes us think of fear and death, and walking in a dark room not knowing where your going can be very scary. Pavement poetry is a symbol of a leading pathway, a “pavement”. A question that I was left with was “How do cemetery poetry and pavement poets relate?” or if there is a link between them in the first place.
