For this final project, I have made a 1-minute video about Brooklyn. Basically it contains three scenes: photos, two kids in McDonald’s, and a flashing neon light says “Welcome to Brooklyn, Welcome to Future” The goal of this video is to let people know better about Brooklyn. Moreover, I hope people will love Brooklyn. It is such a lovely neighborhood. Many people misunderstand that Brooklyn is dangerous, and ignore its creativity and its beauty. Also, the relationship between neighbors are very tight and unified. That is the way a community should be.
For the first part of the video, I put about 10 photos to give a head up. They can be regarded as the secondness, which is special about the form. The photo are presented with increasing pace, in order to lead the viewer from the still image to the video clip. The words in neon are the thirdness, because they states it is Brooklyn.
The media I use is a video with sound. Also it include several photographs. The reasons is that video is capable of deliver more information. A neighborhood is hard to be understood unless people visit and experience it. Many people know Brooklyn by its name, yet don’t know what is Brooklyn like exactly. Especially many Chinese students, mostly girls, are afraid of Brooklyn. They learn the stereotype from their parents, and their parent learn from nowhere, only because Brooklyn is known as a black neighborhood. In fact, Brooklyn is lovely and accessible. By contrast, Manhattan is where everyone is cold. Rush lives and commercials make everyone disconnected. We see fake smiles and fake greetings all the time.
The sound in the background is quite lively and relaxed. It express the feeling of accessible. The two kids indicate the innocent and pure. This video is not a tourism promotional material. It shows what’s real, within only 1 minute.
