It is impossible to understand The Virgin of Guadalupe without understanding the Conquest- the essence of what is Mexican. Mix of race and culture— depend the need to prove superiority, to dominate. Paz.
The fact that she is the Mother of Mexico provides deep insight into the ideology that has carried, and fed the system of thoughtless domination and double standards. Double standards that in reality, are not at all contradicting when one understands that the transcendental difference between the idealized figure, and women, is in fact the source of the violence.
