As I was walking down the street… – Seminar

As I was walking down the street I noticed the lack of eye contact between people passing by each other and it made me wonder what makes New Yorkers so passive in their daily routines. Having lived in the city for three years now, I’ve always been saddened to see a disconnect between people, but I’ve never been surprised. We can blame the silence on the noise. I walk down the street every day, I smile at passing people quite often, but is it often enough? I walk down the street every day, and I practice conviction in the emotions on my face, but is it enough to spark someone to do the same? I think social media is partially to blame, but could it just be the stress of the city? Could it be the competition, the greed, the loneliness even? Blinders on, everything else off. As I was walking, I wondered if I would ever become one of them, one of the hundreds in the park without wandering eyes.
