Drawing and Imaging, Mapping Narcissism

¨Narcissism is very much sort of the buzzword of our time. And it is woefully misunderstood. Narcissism is very much viewed as a disorder of sort of inflated self-esteem and grandiosity. It is those things, but in fact, it’s a disorder of self-esteem. People with narcissism are often the most insecure people in the room and they’ve established a way of showing themselves as anything but – that they often look like the most confident person in the room but there’s an emptiness there¨

A fortnight from December 4th, the idea to map narcissism sprung from various conversations regarding the myth narcissism has been removed from the list of mental disorders because there has been a chronic increase of reported narcissists.  I had begun to research what defines a narcissism and if there actually was an increase…

My attempt at mapping narcissism has been extremely confusing and rather roundabout. Regarding my research, it has been a wild goose chase. From Narcissus to generation x, or the current trend of name calling millennial´s narcissists due to their incessant selfie obsession. In total, it is extremely difficult mapping narcissism and there has been a bit of a blame regarding social media and it´s effect on society. Rather than map narcissism, I am going to map my research of narcissism.
