The History of Sexuality Puppet Show
Originated from a performance that I did in New Orleans for the puppet festival. That puppet show was fairly raw, although it gave me a lot of inspiration for this puppet show. It goes through the history of sex toys, beginning in stone then transferring to the vibrator. Much of it comes from my researching of sex toys, especially how they changed through the course of the 20th century. In the course of my research I went through various emotions, first from being dumbfounded, confused, aroused, then anger and disbelief. It would appear that women’s sexuality has been ignored, misrepresented and often explained from a males point of view..The vibrator was brought to existence to cure women’s ¨hysteria¨and this hysteria is because men did not think that women had any libido. Continuing in the course of history- sex toys have been effected by patriarchy. Men hid their sex toy usage out of shame, and then for women- it gets very complicated from conditioning for the ¨right¨and ¨wrong¨ way to use a vibrator, to the shape and design- this puppet show was an accusation of patriarchy
