Bridge Project3: Soho

SoHo Research-se1hnj

The video file is too big for LP, so I put it on Vimeo and share the link in the post.

Below is the video.

As an iconic and representable area of the city, SoHo contains almost everything you can think about New York: select shops, famous restaurants, distinctive bars, luxury and high street fashion style, finest galleries, designer shops and unique architectures. We searched three aspects of Soho: shops, architectures and people. We found that beyond the shopping aspect of Soho, it has a lot of more charming sides that visitors don’t know.

Bridge #3 Reflection Questions

1) What was your favorite part of this project?

My favorite part of this video is that we work as a team and meet every week. We discussed the project and took pictures and videos together. Everyone all contribute a fair amount of effort to the project.

2) What was most challenging about this project?
The technique. We struggled a lot on how to make a decent video that can show our beautiful neighborhood. We met a lot of technique problems in the process of making the video. Some of them we still couldn’t figure out.

3) What did you learn by completing this project?
I learned that a neighborhood don’t only have one side. Although people may think of “shopping” when they hear “SOHO”, but there are a lot of “treasures” hidden in SOHO that visitors don’t know. With research, I find different perspectives to view a neighborhood.

4) What do you think is most successful about your project?
Our team work. We divides our theme of projects very clearly and everyone has the same amount of work. Also, the theme of the projects are not only showed in studio’s work, but also showed in seminar’s work. I think we did a good job.

5) What would you do to improve it if you had more time?
Definitely the quality of the video. Due to the limits in techniques, we can’t achieve the effect we want in the video. If I have more time, I would learn how to use Premiere and make the quality of video higher.

6) How do you think the design of the assignment itself could be improved to make it more interesting or beneficial for students?

I think the assignment could have a specific goal. Sometimes, in the process of researching, my group members and I lost in the numerous perspectives of a neighborhood. With a specific goal, we can filter some unnecessary information and make the theme of the project more clear.
