Personal Objects Paper

It’s easy accumulating objects throughout one’s life. Living in a society that promotes consumerism, there are a plethora of trinkets that are bought and sold each day. Out of the thousands of objects that I preserved, there are only a few that holds sentimental value. What started out as a simple hat purchase turned into a precious clothing item I can’t let go of.

During middle school, my friends and I spent a majority of our time strolling through our local malls. On one of those occasions we decided to look around Forever21 for stuff we didn’t particularly need. While I continued wandering through the store, I stumbled upon this simple black wide-brimmed hat lying on a pile of clothes. It didn’t seem to belong anywhere in the store, so I impulsively bought it.

Initially, it was just a hat that perfectly fit with all the clothes I wore. I was so fond of the hat that I brought it with me on all my adventures. No matter if it was a trip to the carnival or to the beaches of California, that particular hat has seen it all. I remember one instance when I dropped it in the sand on Manhattan Beach. It was a nightmare trying to scrape the sand off of the felt hat, and to this day there’s still sand stuck in the crevices of the brim. There are so many stories that can be said about the hat, and it’s not just some ordinary Forever21 accessory I bought on a whim. This personal object has seen me grow both mentally and physically.
