The Truth

For this project, I interviewed Haitong and created a 7 minutes video (featured above) about her life and why she came to The New School. While I asked her questions in English, she spoke in Chinese. I thought that by allowing her to speak in her native language, she can more freely speak her thoughts without having to translate everything in her head. Instead of using video footage, I took image sequences and took inspiration from Chris Marker’s film, “La Jetee.”

The Lie

In this 1-minute lie video, I changed the subtitles to her talking about her unique sense of smell and her love for food photography. I did not have to change a lot of the speaking parts since a majority of the class do not understand Mandarin.
