Perspective Drawing Series – New York Public Library

The Assignment

This concentration explored concepts of spatial organization and the use of perspective to create an illusion of 3-dimensional depth. We did studies on 1- and 2-point perspective and then created a series based on an interior space at the NYPL. We discussed using conventions of perspective as a “language” to represent 3-dimensional reality in 2-dimensional form. Mediums I used included pencil and charcoal drawing, photography, and Photoshop.

Hallway Sketches

First, I began practicing 1-point perspective and 2-point perspectives by sitting in the hallways around the school and other public spaces. These are simple, non-tonal sketches that help me study for when I go to the NYPL.
