Part 2- Eyes Without a Face

In the second part of this project, I wanted to improve by making sure that I reduce the amount of items I represent in my work. In this portrait of Elena, I wanted to present her love for photography, her open mind and her personal home space. What I decided to do was make a collage from images I took from various magazines. I chose to do this because I could take many diverse things that represented the things that Elena was interested in. For the background I cut out pictures of nature that were blue, so that I could represent the blue colored wall that Elena has in her room. I then made a camera out of the the floral prints to show Elena’s love for flowers. Finally, I left the camera lens blank to show that she has an open mind and so that the viewer could be free to imagine anything they wanted, filling in what the camera is taking a picture of.

I do not think that the outcome was as planned because people had a hard time telling that the collage was a camera. Visually, I tried to make it beautiful but conceptually I do not think that I succeeded in representing the subjects I wanted to. I think what I should have done instead was try and make the message I was trying to convey, more obvious to the viewer. It was a lot more difficult to present someone without using their face than I thought it would be.
