When mankind is faced with the most detrimental issue ever dealt with, what are ways we are stopping climate change? It is interesting to loo k into how companies are shifting and changing their systems to become more sustainable. A company I am quite interested in is Nike with their Flyknit designed sneakers. This material is airy, comfortable, lightweight, soft, sturdy, and fitting. The material used is recycled polyester which helps prevent millions of pounds of waste being added to landfills. Looking closely at this Flyknit design, it appears to look like a sea of tightly woven and bounded stitches. One can clearly see each knot and pull, while the shoe beautifully holds shape. Customers get a choice between a vast variety of colors. Nike also designed shoes with the Flyknit material to serve different purpose. It is a multipurpose, eco-friendly, array of color, and comfortable shoe. What else could you ask for?

The question to ask about the shoe is what is the process to make the shoe? What is the process to make this Flyknit material? How is the material extracted from recycled plastic bottles? How could the Flyknit material be applied elsewhere? What is the future for this Flyknit sneaker? What are some new designs with the Flyknit material that will be released soon? Is Nike applying this eco-friendly quality to all of their sneakers?

Adhering to the most detrimental issue of our time, it is so important as artist to engage work around climate change. As a nonconformist and expressionist, I showcase the issue by giving an alternative, a substitute for current style of living. Exploring for inspiration, I look to products I use everyday. Asking how to change and alter what is already available, is the first step to innovation. Earth is often taken advantage of, and it is up to us to liberate for the change of eco-friendly products. I am personally working towards changing the design community in a sense of promoting sustainability. Yes, some designers showcase themes of Earth and it’s well being, but it is often forgotten to back this idea up with using eco-friendly components and value. I challenged myself to use only unprocessed, natural ingredients without the additives and genetically modified components. With the guidance of my professor, an all natural bio-degradable edible paint was yielded along with a 100% bio-degradable paint container to hold. The resulting product is mainly an acrylic paint alternative. Astoundingly, there are endless combinations for the color, texture, and gloss the paint can adhere to. With the ingredients used to produce this paint, it can be applied to any surface. The ergonomically successful usage of this creation will hopefully challenge the paint industry in creating more environmentally friendly products. Essentially, it comes down to the value of the conception. Value should derive from the production and creation. This formulation here has the mindfulness for the environment, and it gives apparatus for man kind.
