Pioneros show, Space Analysis

Some observations that I made of the space from the Pioneros show were mostly focusing on the toys from childhood because I can relate to it from toys that I had from my childhood. There was also cartoons playing on an old tv, outfits/clothing for what looks like to be school uniform, a chalkboard with writing on it (the date was September 17, 1980). There were also puzzles and games, books, an old music player, stationary (pencils, erasers, sharpeners, etc) posters, certificates and diploma. The show was definitely childhood oriented as it contained many objects a child would have such as toys and games, there was also a lot of school related things and being that it was Socialist Cuba there were a few advertisements on Socialist leaders.

Pioneros show, interviews

One object that I found interesting was a toy duck. The duck was small, brown and was wearing a blue outfit with a hat. The reason why I found this object to be interesting was because I could relate to it. This duck opened a story for me, one that is reminiscent of my childhood and therefore brought back nostalgic memories.

I interviewed Helen on an object that she relates to and the questions I asked were: What was your object of choice? Why did you find this object interesting? Why did you choose this object? How do you relate to the object? Does this object open up a story for you? And, when did you have this object?

Everyday object from childhood…

lambie

This plush toy was an everyday object from my childhood, I still have her too! This plush lamb, from the brand Gund, is called Lambie (named by me). Lambie was a gift to me when I was a baby and was my favorite plush toy. Lambie is definitely not in the same condition as she was originally, she’s about 19 years old, and she had a purple bow as well as a smaller baby lamb attached to her; both of which are nonexistent.

It is enough that we realize to what extent thought and word are incommensurable with reality. Then it is possible to set one’s limits consciously.

Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

I tell you now that the question of how one should live within a black body, within a country lost in the Dream, is the question of my life, and the pursuit of this question, I have found, ultimately answers itself.

Portrait of an Invisible Man by Paul Auster

“Life becomes death and it’s as if this death has owned life all along.”

“for a man to die of no apparent course, for a man to die simply because he’s a man, brings us so close to invisible boundary between life and death.”

Frames of Remembrance by Iwona Irwin-Zarecka

The term “collective memory” accommodates a great variety of territorial claims. At times, it is used to describe the heritage of the whole of humanity, at times, it becomes a national property, at still other times it is said to bond generations.

On Photography by Susan Sontag

As photographs give people an imaginary possession of a past that is unreal, they also help people to take possession of space in which they are insecure.

Museum, All 60 Square Feet of It, Celebrates the Eccentric by Liz Robbins

“With Museum, it’s about framing the objects that have the unexpected narrative, so that people can be reminded of the absurdity or the beauty or the meaning or the ugliness of everyday objects”

An object that represents me…

20150905_120949 20150905_121001An object that represents me is my sketchbook, being an artist, I have gone through so many sketchbooks over the years. I customized my sketchbook for college (as shown above) with portraits I did of one of my greatest inspirations, Michael Jackson (as well as make the word ‘BAD’ and color it). On the back, I placed a sticker I received from my vacation to Walt Disney World that reads “A little extra pixie dust for you”, I love all things Disney, that’s why I chose to put it on my sketchbook. My sketchbook is still a w.i.p., I will be adding more throughout the semester.
