For this assignment I made a crown to accompany my ‘royal’ makeup look and outfit. I used cardboard from a cereal box as the skeleton and used aluminum foil over that. There is also white fur trimming on the bottom of the crown as well as black velvet/velour material for the inside of the crown. For the makeup look I was inspired by French royalty, such as marie Antoinette, hence the heavily rouged cheeks, pale skin, beauty mark and red lips. I also added a modern twist to the makeup by using a silver metallic eyeshadow to balance the metallic finish of the aluminum foil. For the outfit, I am wearing a black silk shawl with silver & gold rings with diamonds.

I really liked the way these pieces were displayed (by themselves, next to others, and how it looked in the room). I was also really interested in the texture of the pieces.

Conversation

20151024_124531-1This is the map I created that depicts the relations between the four readings (“The Book of Laughter and Forgetting”, “Banksy’s ‘Dismaland’ in England: It’s a Strange World, After All”, “High Culture Goes Hands-On”, and “Museum, All 60 Square Feet of It, Celebrates the Eccentric”) and how they all have direct correlations where, in the end, it completes a circle. I start of with the political edge in Milan Kundera’s text about propaganda in Communist Czechoslovakia and then how it leads into how people view things, which is represented in the text on Banksy’s Dismaland. I then go on to Museums, which are the last two readings, and how in the end there is always a back story…

Public Space

int.studioThe public space I chose was Titan which is a grocery store in Astoria, Queens. I erased as well as blurred some parts of this photograph. I blurred the background to change the focal point of this picture. I also blurred the windows and the phone number on the building because I felt that that was something private. I also erased the couple of people that were in this photo.
