research statement:
In general, I am researching oil versus water as it relates to the culture of oil, and the Anthropocene (human-made climate change, deep time, industrialization).  More specifically, I am beginning an exploration around crude oil and its relationship to Iran (and the Middle East) and in relation to geologies, geopolitics, and infrastructure/technologies/tools.  My initial process is to acquire some crude oil in understanding it as a material and as a physical signifier.  Later, I plan to create some kind of mythological narrative around the hegemony of oil.  I believe that this is important because oil becomes more part of us than water both physically, spiritually/culturally and politically (neoliberalism) and contributes to resource scarcity, climate change, disparities and poverty, and global conflicts and crises.
