Bridge 1 Critique – Eva – 2/15/18

Choose one piece of work from the selection of 5 visualizations. Which piece did you choose.

  1. DESCRIBE the piece using noticing skills. Questions you may choose to ask yourself: (Please describe a minimum of five different noticings you have.)
    •  I chose to focus on the fourth piece in Eva’s series, her collection of images used the same sillheouttte to communicate different emotions that she experiences when she dances. I would describe her piece as neat and clean, there a specific order to it, which ties along with ballet and the need to be clean. There is no background, the composition is overall simple and minimal, the “excitement” is centrally located in the shoe. Every aspect of this piece was digitally crafted. .
  2. ANALYZE – Choose from the open questions below or create your
own questions: (You must have five different questions – and then answer them.)

    • What relationships do you notice among the elements?
    • Practicing Bomhian Arising:
What connections do you make between he piece you experienced and anything else you are thinking about, learning about, sensing about?
    • The color scheme is blue and reads sorrow and despair. The fourth piece of this series is centered around the sadness that Eva undergoes when doing something she is so passionate about. The strokes of the colors depict a silence and general loss and fear. Theres also a visual representation of a sigh, a moment of pain, but also just the acceptance of pain. The piece is very sensual and abstract, but because of the colors, the audience can understand and pull this repair out of the shoe.
  3. CONTEXT/INTERPRET: READ their Artist Statement, View their Artwork and Answer the following questions (Interpret).
  4. I felt that Eva successfully talks about her series of pieces and the purpose of her work is to define an object that is attached to many positive stereotypes. I personally attended a performing arts high school and witnessed many of my friends and the physical and mental pain that dance, a sport so graceful, had caused on them. The pressures and the anxieties that are attached with being a prim ballerina can outweigh the pride and femininity that a ballerina must put out to the public. This theme can be seen in many other positions in life, you don’t really know what occurs behind closed doors, the performative acts only highlight the positive.
