Witness: Subway

I found that New York’s constant commotion is embodied underground, thousands of people getting from place to another place. The subway is the most diverse hub of people, so to witness this consistent motion, I strapped a camera around my neck and recorded my travels while witnessing strangers and their commutes on the train.

From these recordings I dissected the frames and selected 12 moments that together, tell a story in chronological order. I formatted the stills in a time line which shows the audience my experience underground, which actually looks similar to any ordinary person’s experience underground.

Commuting is rarely considered an enjoyable experience, but with heightened observations there comes an appreciation of unspoken community.

If you ask someone how to get to First Ave. stop, they will tell you you’re traveling the right route.

Subway buskers, an artistic experience that random people people on a subway platform enjoy together, clapping along, tapping your foot. Then when you’re train arrives, you hop on and continue your day.
