Mick Ronson – Unsung Hero

My dad sent my uncle and I a direct link to an article entitled, “David Bowie struggled for years’ to tell the story of Ziggy Stardust guitarist Mick Ronson, says filmmaker”, followed by a text that said:

“Read this Amaya and Greg, biggest music nerds I know, well in this family at least”

Throughout my childhood, both of my parents introduced me to the importance of “good” music, my dad and my uncle still challenge my ears by introducing me to old artists and this fascination with music has and will continue to inspire me as an artist. I always joke that I should’ve been born in the late 80s because of my obsession with 80s and 90s culture and my annoyance with generation Z. David Bowie has always been a household name in my family. So reading this article sheds light on David Bowie’s forgotten partner in the creative exploration of his music career from the birth of Ziggy Stardust to both of their passings. The life of music is never going to end and today’s ability to resurge old music is so powerful, in some way I hope to integrate my passion for music and my love for graphic and communication design. Music is always triggering my creativity and my need to listen to music is so overwhelming, but in the best way possible. The music I play reflects my moods, just like the work that I create.

Mick Ronson’s story is so powerful, his love and respect for the artists he created work for overriding his demand for fortune, he persisted and continued to work with these revolutionary artist, I think its a bummer that he was never paid in recognition or fortune, but for people like me, this knowledge makes me appreciate him and want to learn more about him. His need for stardom or performance ship was not as powerful as his skill or passion.

“Ronson was also an inspirational artist, even though—despite attempts at solo stardom—his role was essentially that of loyal henchman, whether posing as a guitar hero or working out the string parts for an album by another artist that he was producing. His influence may have been understated, but was at a profound level on later generations: the guitar sound of the acclaimed Suede openly acknowledges its debt to Ronson.”
