Bridge 2: Artist Statement_03/09/18

I created a series of gifs that are presented in a directional format on the HOW TO of an Olympus Zoom211 film camera, an analog tool. I wanted to highlight irony between the, now considered, vintage camera by using a digital medium. The series begins with the motion of picking up the camera, by stacking theses images, there is a physical motion that is depicted. The second piece is essential to the entire operation, switching the camera ON and OFF. Unlike a digital camera or a cellphone camera, the act of looking in the view finder and framing the shot is quintessential. Once the user has found the subject, panning in and out advances the focus, which is seen in the fourth GIF. Once these steps are completed, the user can take the shot.

Overall, I wanted to create a series that highlighted irony, because within the last twenty years technological advances have increased rapidly and caused a consistent desire for the new, but a neglect for the old.
