Wes Anderson – Magical Realist

Fantastic Mr. Fox was the first film by Wes Anderson that I had seen at the age of 12. Since that first watch (and constant rewatches), I have enveloped myself into admiring, analyzing, adoring his cinematic style, his mastered cinematography and frames, elaborate set and costume design and his use of color palette and typography. Every detail of his films are manifested and cared for, producing a whimsical and magical depiction of realistic events in the world. His most recent film, Isle of Dogs, has rekindled my appreciation for his attention of detail, creativity, wit and whimsy. This film has so far been Anderson’s most politically relevant film, communicated through Japanese culture, there are topics of immigration, political corruption and patriotism, ideas that are constantly streamed on the news. Anderson’s consistent use of powerful actors only materialize his artistic decisions and trust that is made in his relationships with actors, producers, designers and the people that collaborate to produce his final product.
