David Carson, born in Texas, is a contemporary graphic designer, experimenter of type design, the god father of ‘grunge typography’. Following college, he spent his time teaching anf continuing to learn and eventually discover graphic design. With his passion for surfing, he was able to marry two interests, surfing and design. He began working on surfing and skating magazines, where he had developed his ‘dirty type style’. His work is characterized by the chaotic typography and pattern it embodies, disarray of photos overlapping each other, seemingly meaningless at the surface but holding a larger picture. His forward thinking and combustion of passions and ideas is something that I hope to contribute towards, following college and throughout my studies.
