Fred Tomaselli at James Cohan Gallery

The materials used for this piece are a cardboard box, a tee shirt, navy velvet, and most likely something to adhere all the pieces. The artist’s intention with this piece was to create an interactive work while also using commonly found materials such as fabric and cardboard. The piece is mounted on the wall and you can stick your head into the tee shirt hole to view the dark night sky-like fabric surround you. I like that this piece is interactive and approachable. I always tend to gravitate toward pieces that are engaging and interactive, so the works in Tomaselli’s show drew me in. I also enjoyed the blacked out room with the constellation installations in the ceiling as well as Tomaselli’s 2D works.
