For my edible montage, I decided to create a very personal piece. As a young person with big dreams, I wanted to show the idea of “reaching out to the future” while still being able to portray elements of myself into it. My piece features mountains from back home in Vancouver to a scenery of the city on the top- a visual metaphor showing how I will climb my way to success. I then feature my hands, “reaching out” for opportunities in the “big apple” hence the repetition of the apple in my piece. I also included a painting of myself which reminds the audience that this piece is all about me. Despite the obstacles I may face here, I will always have a smile on my face. I added a beam of light to complete the entire piece. I learned a lot while doing this project. I have never been strong when it came to digital media, so it took some time to adjust to the many different options and features photoshop had when I was editing. I mainly used the brush tool, to smooth my images out as well as the “quick selection tool” and “magic wand”. Overall, I am very happy with my work and I intend to apply these skills and techniques that I have gained to future projects and works.
Here are the steps of my edible montage
I started off by putting an image I found on google as my background
I then proceeded to place Vancouver mountains and New York City in the back- playing with the transparency and effects on both images
After this, I inserted the painting of my hand
As well as playing with the repetition of the apple…
And adding myself into the pictures to make it all the more personal
To complete the entire montage, I added the beam of light to finish the entire montage
And my final piece is ready to present!
