“GENDERLESS”-Design Studio 2- Project 1: When I go back, I go forward

After revisiting an essay I wrote for one of my past seminars, I decided to focus on the idea of gender inequality for my first project. In my essay, I lean towards the impact gender inequality has on women- more specifically, in the world of fashion and its social and economic effects on society. For this project, I intend on expanding my knowledge on gender inequality by researching the impacts on both male and female- which connects to all sorts of topics such as: workplace, parenting roles, society roles, stereotypes and sex discrimination. After my research is complete and thorough, I plan on constructing a garment, (applying elements that I have learned last semester such as fabric manipulations, acrylic and ink transfers, etc. as well as potential new techniques and methods) that depict the inequality that is still being presented to this very day in our society, more specifically in the fashion industry.

I strived to create genderless garments that went beyond the expected. With my own personal aesthetic in mind, I hoped to have produced pieces that reflect on my personal artistic elements as well as the social issue I am trying to convey.
