Bridge project #3: Multiple Perspectives

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This was a project which was supposed to be executed in group of 3 to 4. Each group was assigned one place that was completely contrasting to the others in cultural and political way. Each place had a history attached to it and the present scene was unique. We had to collect sounds that had to represent the past and the present to depict the future utopia. These sound pieces had to be mixed and combined to make a sound track that could represent the future of that place.

GROUP TASK ASD MANAGEMENT PROPOSAL:
Each person had to research the history of Harlem and come up with a sub-theme. We then had to come up with five sounds each that depicted the past and the present. After collecting the sounds we gathered to collect sounds and then eliminated the ones we did not require and gathered the rest to make a track representing the future.

COLLECTED SOUNDS:

SOUND DESCRIPTION:
The place we got assigned was East Harlem also known as Spanish Harlem. We collected over ten sounds that represented the past and the future. The starting point of our travel started from the famous Italian Restaurant called Rao’s which became known after a famous celebrity singer got shot in front of it. As it was a district where there were African Americans and Spanish communities that were often notices in as part of riots which made the Atmosphere of Harlem unsafe and disturbing. Our theme was dystopia and therefore we wanted to show the sound scape which had elements that portrayed negativity and social distress. Therefore we included tracks of humans screaming and gunshots. The theme we started off with was racism which then broadened up.
