36 Selfies

Through the selfie project, I explored the difference between the real me and the fake me. I used a photobooth-like format to create different stereotypical lenses through which others view me compared to how I think I really am. In the first two columns, I compare the stereotype of being from New Jersey to my reaction to the stereotype, which shows the real me. The third and fourth columns explore the stereotype of being a student in New York City. The sterotype of how others view me portrays a girl who looks like she knows where she is going and is calm, cool, and chic. The real me as a student in New York City is the antithesis to that stereotype. The fourth column juxtaposes the stereotype by portraying the me who gets lost, which is evident through the New York City Guide book that I used as a prop. The fifth and sixths columns explore the stereotype of a fashion student. There stereotypical version of me is someone that only cares about their outfit and oustide presentation. The real me is a frazzled student trying to juggle a full course-load of art classes.
