Pattern Concept, Unit & Color

I created a motif that references vines because the vine symbol is present in both textiles present in Bavarian lederhosen and garments/ textiles in my other culturesĀ of interest, Nepal, Peru, and India. I looked at my bag for inspiration because it is from Nepal and contains the colors and embroidered floral patterns that I want to translate into my patterns and garment. My main idea is to intertwine the cultures by combining the shape of the lederhosen and the bright and bold embroidery techniques from the indigenous cultures that I researched. My motif is a curved shape that references the twisting of a vine that connects flowers in embroidery. I want to connect this pattern with my topic because it will be combining the two cultures and appropriating the motifs and techniques used in patterns from the cultures I am researching. By focusing on the Peruvian, Nepalese, and Indian textile, I want to create patterns that appropriate the themes and motifs in order to create a pattern book heavy with these cultures’ influences. Once I have the patterns based off of these cultures, I plan to combine it with the shape of the lederhosen to combine two cultures and modernize them through clashing them.
