Systems Brainstorm

My definition of the term “system” is a series of actions or entities that come together in order to form one whole functioning apparatus.

5 Examples of Systems:

  1. Cultural Systems: Chinatown, K-Town (Koreatown), and Little Italy
Culture systems are oftentimes developed between a group of people who are originating from the same place and share common practices. Areas such as Chinatown, K-Town (Koreatown), and Little Italy became populated and grouped together because of their collective views on living.
An issue that currently exists in cultural systems is racial segregation. Oftentimes these areas would be unaccepting of outside cultures “invading” their community.
  2. Social Systems: greetings, manners, titles such as Mr. Mrs. etc.
Social systems oftentimes vary within different culture systems. This system is constantly changing with society and language.
A problem with social systems is that it differs and is constantly changing in all areas of the world. So people have to adapt and learn what is “socially acceptable” behavior in different areas.
  3. Security Systems: Policemen-NYPD (public), security guards (private)
Security systems can be the policemen that ensure safety of the city as a whole, or even the privately hired security guards that watch over buildings, hospitals, etc.
  4. Transportation Systems: subways, buses, taxis, Ubers
Transportation systems are a large part of what makes the city function. It allows people to get to and from their destinations efficiently. These methods of transportations include public transportation provided by the city or private modes of transportation such as cabs or Ubers.
A problem with transportation systems is that many of them are affected by the weather.
  5. Handicapped/Disabled Systems: handicapped parking, wheelchair ramps, braille
In New York City there are systems dedicated to people who are disabled or handicapped. These systems can be a part of other systems as well. Handicapped parking for example, is also a part of the parking systems. The other systems such as wheelchair ramps and braille are their own systems altogether.
