Observation #1

For the first observation assignment, i was sitting at the second floor UC, where the big glasses located, and I was watching things happened on the street.

I began with the temperature difference between the outside and where I was. I thought about how air conditioning changed the summer, so I wrote “Hail to air conditioning”. To think further to this subject, air conditioning is a system where includes the production, the transportation and the consuming, something similar to the T-shirt system we talked in class. Then I switched to the traffic lights and the cars. I counted while drawing a doodle of where I sat, two birds and one tourist bus passed, and while writing down this record, two tourist bus passed. Traffic light was shaking because of the wind, and somehow I felt protected. So I wrote down “behind glass I feel safe; safe from the sunshine”.

Then I started to notice people passing by: walking, running, playing their phones, with babies or dogs. There were two specific people caught my attention. They were both wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, but they performed profoundly different: one was a fat guy running and the other was a women standing and talking on her phone. This was about time, and I paused and thought for a while. Then I wrote down a quote from a cartoon Regular Show:” time is on my side”. After re-looking to this subject, I wondered, can time be or has its own system?

After this a sparrow stopped at a brach near me, and I remembered on my way to UC, I saw the first butterfly in this city. Animals have their own world and their own system, and so do humans, but what people always choose to ignore is that we are connected—or to say in a more correct way, animals and human species have, or to say share the same system. So I wrote down “system of magic-of-life”.

At the other building in front of me, a indoor plant caught my eyes, and I wondered “will plant in the room thinking differently from trees on the street?” If to broaden this question, will people staying at their own comfort zone be thinking differently from the people out of the box? The answer should be positive, though humans are in a bigger but one same system. So it becomes true that each unit under the bigger system can perform differently and distinguishably. Under specific eras, such as post WW2, countries tended to treat and form their people in the same mold which is not beneficial to the system of humans yet it might had a chance improving a system of one country. I will leave a question mark to this statement.

Before ending my observation, I noticed something so interesting was that a woman came from shadow but before she entered under the sunshine, I thought she was a old lady but turned out to be a young girl. So I write down “let there be light, Then here comes the shadow”. A little irony from Bible. I always appreciate the paradoxical nature: whether in real life or philosophical thinking or in the art world. At last, I wrote down “ a total comedy is tragedy; a tragedy’s story is (sometimes) a comedy”.
