Bridge One

The object that I have chosen to be my use as a touchstone this session is Kem Weber’s “Vanity with Mirror and Stool” by Lloyd Manufacturing company. When I came across this object I was instantly intrigued by its curvature and reflective properties laid against the dark leather textile. The object dates to 1934. The design is exceptionally clean in my eyes and instantly encourages inspiration for my gown designs. Although the vanity has a gender specific stigma attached it, the design of this vanity is quite neutral. For my paper model I did not depart very much from the original design of the object because I was interested in discovering how the objects appeal is changed when stripped of its bold materials and colors. My final result, although quite similar to the shape and design of the object departed extremely from the original. Because this objects offers so many design techniques and nuances I believe it will be a great driving influence for my up coming work.
