SS WEEK 12

1.What are some suspended activities that you would not like to see coming back?

Driving under the influence(DUI) of alcohol.

2.Describe why this activity seems to you to be noxious/superfluous/dangerous/incoherent and how its disappearance/putting on hold/substitution might render other activities that you prefer easier/more coherent. (write a separate answer for each of the activities listed under 1).

Drunk-driving is obviously not something to be taken lightly, and it is a dangerous crime. In my country South Korea, the government is now attempting to up the maximum punishments for those who cause accidents while under the influence. Even though the government strengthened the law, there are still a lot of people doing DUI. As a driving person, I know how this particular activity could lead to a serious situation: not only is it a problem for the driver but also other people on the road at the time. Even the smallest amount of alcohol can have measurable effects on a person and strongly impact their driving ability. This is why I hope that the activity gets more strongly suspended.

3.What kinds of measures/employees/agents/entrepreneurs, who can no longer continue in the activities that you have eliminated, are able to facilitate the transition to other activities?

I think most people are already aware of how dangerous driving while intoxicated can be. However, the problem is that when people get drunk, they become not capable of recognizing a dangerous situation. Since drinking alcohol is one’s freedom and drinking is an almost integral part of doing business in Korea, the government cannot restrict every single person’s alcohol consumption. But some measures could facilitate the transition without forcefully controlling one’s decision. For example, in South Korea, there are “replacement driver services” available. I think these kinds of services should be more invented so that drunk people can use it in any unpredictable situation to prevent drunk-driving.

4.What are the activities, now suspended, that you hope might develop/begin again, or even be created from scratch?

Since so many things are restricted due to COVID-19, I hope all of them could get back to normal again. But especially, I miss the days that I could gather with my family/friends and visit restaurants/bars.

5.Describe how this activity appears to be positive to you, and how it makes other activities easier/more harmonious/coherent that you prefer and can fight against those that you judge to be inappropriate. (Write a separate answer for each of the activities listed under 4).

At the beginning of this pandemic situation, it was kind of hard to face reality because everything happened so suddenly. However, as I spend most of the time at home doing self-quarantine, I realized that those suspended activities appear somehow positive to me because it actually made me learn and be aware of things. Since we are restricted to very ordinary days, I think these suspended activities could give motivation to people to work even harder after this pandemic pass.

6.What kinds of measures do you advocate to help workers/employees/agents/entrepreneurs to acquire capacities/means/finances/instruments allowing for restarting/development/creation of this activity?

Coronavirus is putting a substantial impact on businesses and the economy right now. However, I do think that even though the world is facing a pandemic, some companies have even higher outcomes. For example, gaming industries and delivery services seem to be thriving during this coronavirus season. Therefore, I think there would be some ways to recover businesses. Moreover, I believe the most important thing would be people to cooperate in social distancing until it ends to restart the activities.
