It’s Complicated.

This project for Time class is the first experience that I have had with a finished project in premiere pro. I had never ventured into time-based media to portray an idea and it was a very interesting process. I began with an idea that resembled in style, scale and feeling to the InDesign photo poem that I made earlier in the same class.

This video is inspired by relationships, particularly the aspect of them that is selfish. A seemingly altruistic relationship which is actually based on the selfish purpose of satisfying one’s own desire. I try to focus on purely the carnal desire for this video. It alludes to sexual relations in a way and what they tend to represent in relationships. I used the relationship between teeth and nails (nail biting) to portray this idea. The quick-changing shots and the angles in which the camera meets the subject inspire a sense of backwardness or oddness. In addition, movements in the mouth and hands and the interaction between them show different signs of tension, masculinity, power, pleasure and relief that all relate to the way I view human interaction.
