Going through phases of music genres quite frequently, sometimes on a month to month basis, I have just recently started to explore the metal scene. Eager to dig deeper into its underground scene rather than what I’ve witnessed on surface level, I decided to check out upcoming shows at Saint Vitus.
Saint Vitus has caught my attention for a year or so now, hearing about it from word of mouth which I thought was pretty unusual considering how we usually discover venues; via the internet. I began sifting through upcoming shows at the venue, giving each performer a listen. Monolord immediately captivated my attention with their hard hitting riffs, heavy electric guitar, and distorted vocals. One of their most popular songs, Empress Rising can be found below. A comment on the music video provides what I consider to be the perfect summation of the group’s sound, “Doomiest, sludgiest thing I’ve heard in quite some time. Gave me goosebumps.” Hearing these guys live is something I greatly look forward to, anticipating a very captivating, entrancing performance from what I’ve heard and seen thus far.
