Bridge 1 Critique-Isabella-DAI-02/14/18

I decided to focus on her piece in which she pressed up against a window.

Description:black and white, abstract, shapes, different mediums, washed out colors

Isabella used different mediums and colors to demonstrate her trip to union. There was a duality of light and dark in the collection. This image really caught my eye because it was a negative image which was brought to the light and it changed the way the image is now.

Analyze:

How do the elements work together?Well she used different mediums one of them being photography. It is interesting how she choose to expose her negative and change an image that capture something being still.

How did you interpret this image?I thought that the image was made with water color at first. I thought it was interesting how dark this image is yet the small details are still visible.

What emotions evoke you  from this image? I felt that it’s dark and busy nature might represent how she feels in the city. It not a warm and colorful piece like the yellow one. This one is different and somber.

After reading their description and process of the piece does it add up to your interpretation of it? I did not think about how technology affects how we see and interpret things at first but I do see how it can be changed and altered.

What other piece is her collection is similar to this one? The negative photo onto the wooden piece is similar to this one because they are both photographs that have been changed and at first glance do not look more than black and white pictures but there are different mediums and different ways they pictures were achieved.

Interpret:

I think Isabella did a great job using different mediums for her pieces which were all mainly abstract. They did not have one single meaning instead tey could be interpreted various different ways. I think she would be interested in seeing Arnold Newman’s work which is different from her’s however the black and white images capture beautiful and simple everyday things and also very complicated scenes. http://arnoldnewman.com/
