The picture is a daytime picture of that focuses on four white American semi- naked woman astride bikes on the Williamsburg Bridge in New York. These women are taking part in a Outdoor CoEd Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society organized bicycle tour of historic sites in lower Manhattan. However, the central concept of the women being semi – naked and riding bikes has been overshadowed by censoring parts of the women’s bodies. There are other people visible in the background but they are out of focus.

The picture is a one point perspective with an eye-level point of view. the women who are up close appear to be bigger than the people further back. They overlap one another which creates space in the picture. clarity of image is much higher up front than at the back where the image begins to fade out (vanishing point).

The picture is very colorful and vibrant which attracts people towards it. It has been titled Breezy riders.

To me the meaning of this picture is the freedom of self expression and liberating the idea of the human body. Its empowering and bold especially because they’re women. The photographer seems to have captured them in a casual straightforward manner however the editor and publishers made a decision to censor it which completely kills the entire meaning of the picture and the initiative of being nearly naked. Politically one can relate this to how we are made to believe that our society is free but the reality is that it is a one thats not free but a one that comes with limited freedoms. Limited freedom is also a concept that we came across while reading The Handmaids Tale in class.
