I think the design is definitely straight forward and user-friendly–I am especially fond of your main icon. Is there a way to evoke the coziness or inspiring backdrop appropriate for logging/journal writing? What is the motivation behind your mood board? Thanks!
What a great idea!! You came up with a very practical solution to the problem of not thoughtfully engaging with the media, specifically tv shows and movies, we consume. I had to go to your week 10 entry to understand the app because at first I thought it was an app that let you binge on shows that taught you something useful, but I like your actual idea much better! I also like the idea of commenting on what other users are watching, as well as keeping track of what you’ve already seen. This would be useful to so many people. The social aspect is really great because you can see what your friends are watching although how open would this be? I know that some people don’t like others to know when and if they’re binge watching something. How do people engage with the diary entry? Can they type their thoughts, react with emojis, film their reactions? Insofar as mood board, and design comps, it would be good if you included more lifestyle elements in your mood board so people can really get a feel for what the app is all about. The navigation bar at the bottom of the page is great and I have to say I love the contrast of the hot pink with the burgundy ombre. Those are two colors I would have never thought go well together but they do, and even more so when they’re offset by the turquoise. Beautiful, unexpected palette. Well done, your app seems very easy to navigate and it’s a really nice idea!
Lindy, I really like this idea and applaud the relevance. Binge watching is becoming a regular practice for so many but with binging there is little time to process. When watching a seires as it airs, you have a week to process an episode. With streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, we take far less time to process. The idea of reflecting in your diary and then having the opportunity to discuss with other viewers, is a great one. I recently binge watched the first two seasons of Empire and could not find anyone around me who had watched it. I wanted to discuss it so badly but did not have an outlet. Your app could have solved this problem. Like your user persona Tina, I don’t like posting about all of the media I consume on Facebook and your app would provide a platform to serve as an outlet for that. Your app creates a platform for fans to discuss shows similar to that of live tweeting during the first air of the show. The opportunity for conversation is something that many want but have not known how or where to start it. This app would solve this problem. I think it is healthy and normal to process things that are a large part of our daily life. The consumption of media is at the forefront of most people’s daily life and therefore needs to be allotted a time and place to process their media consumption. I really like the design of the app and think it matches the purpose of the app. I can see this app catching on quickly and being something that people use on a daily basis. It would be a great way to break up binge watching and offers an opportunity for conversation where one has not previously been. I would definitely use this app. Thank you for sharing and great work!!
Lindy: This is a super creative and practical idea! Many of my Facebook and Twitter friends utilize those platforms as places to express themselves about shows that they’ve binge watched. While I sometimes enjoy seeing reactions to what they’ve consumed, at times they spoil the experience for others who haven’t watched as yet. They also use their status updates as diary entries for their opinions which, in turn, turns into a comment-filled forum of reactions and opinions from others. Your app idea will lessen the idea of spoilers and give binge watchers an alternative platform to engage with other users who’ve consumed the same material that they have.
The idea of a virtual log of TV episodes that users have watched is also a very unique add-on. I like that the user can add friends who watch the same TV shows, which makes it easier for them to communicate through the app. An added bonus is that the app keeps the user abreast of mutual shows that others have watched and reviewed.
With reference to the graphics of your platform, your mood board and design comps are very colorful and engaging. The icons at the bottom of the page are very navigable. You used virtual hierarchy in placement of page details. The page title font is significantly larger than the rest of the font on the pages, to indicate to the user what details are listed below. Also, the icon of the selected page is highlighted in a bright blue at the bottom of the page. Overall, the colors work very well together to create a vibrant platform.
The app’s title “Smart Binge” is unique and conveys the concept of your platform perfectly. This interface is certainly a ‘smart’ way to ‘binge’ watch programming, rather than watching aimlessly. Looking forward to further development of your app.
Hi Lindy. What a fun and engaging way to answer a developing need in a new cultural norm! I think you hit the nail on the head when you say that the ever-more popular streaming format which allows for binging also significantly lessens the time for critical evaluation, or even just quiet contemplation, that is devoted to the individual units, whether films or TV episodes. I can honestly say that it never occurred to me to address this by logging what I watch, but about two seconds into looking at your comp design, I thought, “I want this!,” and the diary aspect really bumps it up a notch, by allowing you to either keep your thoughts for your future self, or to share them with other like-minded individuals. Your design is intuitive and clearly laid out, and I love the vibrant and unique color scheme, and the retro-feeling font and iconography. I hope you get a chance to develop this at some point – I would definitely download it. Thanks for sharing!
