Young and Beautiful Lyrics
I’ve seen the world, done it all, had my cake now
Diamonds, brilliant, and Bel-Air now
Hot summer nights, mid-July
When you and I were forever wild
The crazy days, the city lights
The way you’d play with me like a child
Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and
beautiful?
Will you still love me when I got nothing but my
aching soul?
I know you will, I know you will
I know that you will
Will you still love me when I’m no longer beautiful?
I’ve seen the world, lit it up as my stage now
Channeling angels in the new age now
Hot summer days, rock and roll
The way you’d play for me at your show
And all the ways I got to know
Your pretty face, electric soul
Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and
beautiful?
Will you still love me when I got nothing but my
aching soul?
I know you will, I know you will
I know that you will
Will you still love me when I’m no longer beautiful?
Dear Lord, when I get to Heaven
Please let me bring my man
When he comes, tell me that you’ll let him in
Father, tell me if you can.
Oh, that grace, oh, that body
Oh, that face makes me wanna party
He’s my sun, he makes me shine like diamonds
Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and
beautiful?
Will you still love me when I got nothing but my
aching soul?
I know you will, I know you will
I know that you will
Will you still love me when I’m no longer beautiful?
Will you still love me when I’m no longer beautiful?
Will you still love me when I’m not young and
beautiful?
The song is written for the movie The Great Gatsby, from the angle of Daisy, who
loves Gatsby all the time but lives in misery. The song expresses women’s
hesitation and worry about money and trust when they fall in love. She also doubts
about love itself, which is so powerful, mysterious, but dangerous. And it’s obvious
to feel the insecurity in the song. Even in a stable love relationship, women always
worry about anything they can think of. After all, in the rest of life being with the
lover, life is unpredictable, and nobody knows what will happen in the future. I have
the same feeling sometimes. Nowadays in this materialized world, there are so
many factors which can easily start or break a relationship, money, power, so on
and so forth. Love seems has been controlled by materials that the single look for
their partner based on living condition instead of real spiritual feeling ; couples need
money to live together, and ease of their life depends on the level of richness.
Money brings qualified food, living space. But overdosed materialism somehow
erodes the love, and make it become inanity. Personally, I was so appreciated to
my simplicity of love in the present, and I hope it will consist forever. However, there
will come a day that both of us are going to live independently without our family
support, more burden from money, responsibility and trouble will come. Just like
what the lyric said, “Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and beautiful?
Will you still love me when I got nothing but my aching soul?”I am afraid love will be
so fragile then. At the same time, money to both of us will be such a significance to
life. However, I believe everything will be fine at the end if there’s going to be a hard
time.
