What Is Fashion?

Fashion is a broad categorization of dressing and understanding the reasons behind the everyday choice of dressing up.

Fashion entails not only clothes, but attitude and character. It presents little or big details about one person, a community, a movement.

I think that in the start of the semester I had the same understanding of what is Fashion, Yet it was not as detailed and informed as it is now.

I knew of fashion rules that everybody always say (for example- that brown and black do not go together), but during this semester I learned of detailed “rules” that the fashion industry has, such as regulation, subject formation, etc. I learned that personal fashion is not personal at all- it drives from the surroundings, the culture, the history. Another issue I have learned of is definitions of related issues that corresponds to fashion studies.

To sum the semester, just as Susan Kaiser wrote “Fashion is not a thing or an essence. Rather, it is a social process or negotiation and navigation through the murky and yet-hopeful waters of what is to come.” Time will change fashion. fashion is an ever-evolving ideas.
