I wanted to create a home goods collection that spoke on the lack of design and arts education for children growing up in impoverished areas. Many children of color grow up believing the only way they can make it is by playing sports, music or criminal activities. I wanted to show kids that design and creativity is an option. Concrete is what is used for side walks so I decided to use it as the main material in my project as a metaphor for design taking kids off the street and putting them on “the sidewalk.”
