While I was studying further on Ornament and Crime by Adolf Loos, I stumbled across different artists and architects who were inspired by his idea. Ornmanent is Crime by Albert Hill and Matt Gibberd is a visual manifesto for homes that are considered to be inspired by the modernist architecture movement. One of the contemporary structures shown was the Bailey House, also known as Case Study House #21, by Pierre Koenig which is located in Hollywood Hills. This house gives the aesthetic of a modernist home because of the main structure utilizing steel frame and glass.

The Case Study House Program was a program where they experimented in residential architecture in America. They wanted to build inexpensive residential homes that would be efficient by the end of World War II. They utilized donated materials which would help them in cost efficiency.

Adolf Loos’ idea of ornament being a crime influenced many architects during the modern architecture movement. All the elements of this house display features of Loos’ idea because Pierre Koenig wanted the place to be an efficient and affordable place that people could afford. The interior provides core utilities while maintaining a clean design. He was innovative when it came to the technical design of the house. From using steel frame and welding of channel to each of the columns to give extra support. This also supports the overall aesthetic of the structure. Since the Bailey House was very simplistic in design, he had the idea of sandwiching steel to cover the wiring and pipes.Additionally, he created holes on the roof over bathrooms and different utility areas to allow exterior elements enter such as daylight, rain, etc. This is very similar to Le Corbusier’s designs where he incorporates the idea of connecting interior and exterior spaces together.
