Video Project

For my video project, I explored the concept of indulgences and sensory pleasures as I did in the story project. However, in this project, I focused on how sensory pleasures and indulgences can be destructive forces that can lead a person to their demise. My video shows a fall from innocence, as portrayed by a young girl who slips into habits of drug abuse, drinking, and smoking. I used the elements of firstness, secondness, and thirdness in my video. I also used camera angles as a tool in my video. For instance, when the girl is first introduced, the camera is looking up at her, making her appear to have power. But after she begins to indulge in sensory pleasures and begins her downward spiral, the camera shifts to start looking above her until it is directly overhead.

I used Adobe Premiere to edit the video, and this was my first experience using this software.

After my first submission of the video, I adjusted the coloration of many of the frames. I also added a blackout lasting 5 seconds at the end of the video, creating a more dramatic cut and a better ending for the piece.

For my sound piece, I took an abstract approach. I used sounds that created a haunting effect, building up slowly and gradually layering on top of each other in an eerie and dramatic climax, until they are halted abruptly.

I created my sound by recording myself humming and playing notes on the piano, and then altering the speed and pitch of the sounds, as well as reversing many of the sound clips. I used Audacity to edit my sound. This was my first time exploring this software.
