Head Piece Project

For my head piece project, I decided to base my head piece on an insect head, as the assignment asked for us to draw inspiration from nature and natural forms. I also included the Fibonacci sequence in both my process, in creating the 9 step drawing, and in my final design in the sizes of the eyes on the head piece.

I made my head piece out of a faux leather and colored vinyl for the areal surfaces. The linear frame structure was created with wire. My lack of experience with a sewing machine made this project difficult. I also hand sewed many of the pieces, a process which I did not realize was so extremely tedious and time consuming. The assignment also called for the piece to have a moving element which could conceal or reveal a part of the face. In my piece the pinchers of the insect head can be rearranged to hide or show the eyes of the wearer.
