For my group’s re-frame portrait, we were assigned Eduard Manet’s painting ‘Olympia’. During the time of this painting’s origin it was extremely controversial, because it addressed many different themes that people were not comfortable with addressing, such as race, gender roles, feminism, and prostitution. It made people feel uncomfortable because it showed what a real female of that time looked like without objectifying her. To recreate this, we focused on how a real girl of this era would act.
