Contrasting Retail Models

Interview:

Do you think that the model is an accurate representation of the store—why or why not?

  • The dimension of the store look right
  • The item could be more packed
  • Maybe could stag the picture to make it look more crowded
  • Still a few missing items
  • Need to add the cashier

Did you ever think about all the other different stores in NYC selling similar items but at different prices, etc?

  • Definitely
  • But feel like Chinatown souvenirs  are much cheaper
  • Other tourists attraction would definitely be more expensive

How much rent do you think the other store in this area pays per month?

  • Don’t know but think it should be the same

Do you notice economic inequality in NYC —does it seem to be getting more extreme?

  • Even though Chinatown stores are much cheaper, places that are more of a tourists place with much higher price would still get more costumer and money
  • More money you have, you can buy a better location
  • Not fair in the part that, small stores wouldn’t be able to get a good location if they don’t have a lot of money —> no fair chance to compete with other stores
