Tale of Two Cities

In this project for my Drawing and Imagining class, two locations are represented; New York and Southern California. Southern California is my home, it is where I was born and where I grew up. Moving to New York was a big change for me. I wanted to be sure that these locations would be easily recognizable, so I used the iconic buildings and skyscrapers of New York City and the Santa Monica Pier of California. The two figures in the Santa Monica Pier are my parents. Both of the cities have two different color palettes. For New York, I used cold colors, while for California I used warmer colors. To me, these two places are very different, like two worlds. I tried to convey this by using a star background. It is as if they are planets in space.
