Inspiration/ Mood Board

This project was based off of a necklace my Great Uncle gave my Great Aunt as a symbol that she was the key to his heart. I have been passed down this necklace by my mom and continue to wear it every day. I was most inspired by the color and material of the necklace- gold. I played with the ideas of love, trust, and vulnerability in my piece and is shown through the composition. The front part of the garment is asymmetrical in both shape but also volume. As the piece spreads away from the heart it ‘thins’ out the acrylic- making separations and exposing the skin. The heart is protected by multiple layers of acrylic. The delicate details of the draped chain contrasts the front with an open back and symmetrical composition. The back balances protection with vulnerability and delicacy while also incorporating itself into the front piece- you cannot have one without the other with love.
